[00:01:28] Hey everyone, my name is Nikki Young and this is Serial Napper, the true crime podcast for naps.
[00:01:35] I'm back with another true crime story to lull you to sleep, or perhaps to give you nightmares.
[00:01:41] On April 1st, 2024, Sade Robinson, a 19-year-old from Milwaukee, told an employee at her apartment building that she was looking forward to a date that evening.
[00:01:53] Just hours later, stills from a surveillance video captured Sade sitting next to a man at Twisted Fisherman, a local restaurant, before leaving with him.
[00:02:03] That would be the last time that anyone saw her alive.
[00:02:08] The following day, Sade's car was found burnt out in a parking lot, her clothes discarded in the trunk.
[00:02:15] But the horrors didn't end there.
[00:02:17] A human leg was discovered near the shores of Lake Michigan, and soon after, a foot matching the leg was found just a few miles away in Milwaukee.
[00:02:28] The investigation into Sade's disappearance would unravel a chilling and twisted nightmare, one that has left family, friends and the police searching for answers.
[00:02:39] Mostly, why would someone do something so horrific to this young lady who was nothing but a kind soul to everyone that she met?
[00:02:48] So, dim the lights, put your phone down, and listen as I dive deep into the shocking case of Sade Robinson, her final moments, the unsettling discoveries, and the ongoing search for justice against the man who took her life.
[00:03:03] So, let's jump right in.
[00:03:07] Sade Carlina Robinson was known for her curiosity and determination.
[00:03:11] Growing up in Milwaukee, her mother would say that she embraced life with enthusiasm, even as a young girl.
[00:03:19] In elementary school, she joined the Girl Scouts and was active in soccer.
[00:03:23] But her true passion was for the arts.
[00:03:26] Sade was a natural dancer.
[00:03:28] Her mother would recall how she lit up whenever she took the stage.
[00:03:33] But her creative talents didn't stop there.
[00:03:36] She also developed a love for rapping and performing, and even explored the world of ballroom dancing.
[00:03:42] In middle school, she took on a new challenge, joining the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps, JROTC.
[00:03:50] At the time, she even dreamed of one day joining the U.S. Air Force.
[00:03:54] As I said, this girl was determined to push her limits.
[00:03:59] As a teenager, Sade attended Riverside High School on Milwaukee's vibrant East Side, where she excelled not only academically, but also socially.
[00:04:10] She had a solid group of friends who would remain in her life even as an adult.
[00:04:15] Seriously, these were the kind of friends that every girl wishes she had in her life.
[00:04:20] But more on that later.
[00:04:22] Sade's drive and ambition were clear, so much so that she graduated a semester early in December 2021, walking alongside the class of 2022 to receive her diploma.
[00:04:34] After high school, Sade wasted no time in forging her future.
[00:04:40] She enrolled at Milwaukee Area Technical College, MATC, eager to pursue a degree in criminal justice of all things.
[00:04:48] All while balancing two jobs, one working at Pizza Shuttle on the East Side and the other at the Wisconsin Country Club on the Northwest Side.
[00:04:57] She worked hard so that she could live independently on her own, renting an apartment all by herself at the age of 19.
[00:05:06] At the country club, Sade was described by colleagues as having a smile that felt like a superpower.
[00:05:13] One that brightened the room and made everyone feel at ease.
[00:05:17] Another coworker admired her wisdom and strength, noting that she seemed far beyond her years.
[00:05:23] She was a special person, they shared.
[00:05:26] Even with the demands of two jobs, Sade tried to make time to go out and be social.
[00:05:33] Which is why, on April 1st, 2024, 19-year-old Sade made plans to go out on a date.
[00:05:39] Earlier on in the day, she had even expressed to an employee who worked at her building just how excited she was to go out on her first date with a much older man.
[00:05:50] A 33-year-old named Maxwell Anderson.
[00:05:54] It hasn't been made clear exactly how the unlikely pair would have met.
[00:05:58] I've read some reports that have stated that they were chatting on a dating site, a dating app.
[00:06:03] While others suggest that they may have met when Sade was at a local bar that Maxwell worked at.
[00:06:10] Sade often liked to go to this particular bar because they didn't check IDs.
[00:06:15] Remember, Sade, she was just 19 years old.
[00:06:18] And one has to wonder if she knew how much older Maxwell was when she accepted the date.
[00:06:23] Either way, at approximately 4.15pm that night, she texted Maxwell to make arrangements on where they were going to meet.
[00:06:32] Maxwell suggested that they meet at the Twisted Fisherman restaurant for dinner.
[00:06:36] This was a spot that Maxwell knew well because he had previously worked there.
[00:06:42] This spot also worked because he had to pick up a W-2 form from his previous manager.
[00:06:48] Sade agreed, saying that, yep, she was feeling seafood.
[00:06:51] They met at the Twisted Fisherman about an hour later, with Maxwell arriving first and telling the bartender that he was there for his first date with a young woman.
[00:07:01] He was wearing a red flannel coat with a grey hood, a black Carhartt t-shirt and dark jeans, with his hair pulled back into a ponytail.
[00:07:10] Sade arrived shortly after and joined him at the bar where they shared some food and a few drinks.
[00:07:16] She wore a black puffy coat over a white t-shirt and ripped blue jeans.
[00:07:22] Cameras at the restaurant would capture their interactions and everything seemed to be going as expected.
[00:07:28] They both appeared to be having a good time, engaged in conversation.
[00:07:33] At 6.30pm, they are seen leaving the restaurant and then heading towards Maxwell's car.
[00:07:39] They decided to head to another bar, called Duke's on Water, where they would be captured on their security camera having a few more drinks.
[00:07:48] While at Duke's, Sade sent a Snapchat out to her friends.
[00:07:52] The very last communication that Sade would ever send.
[00:07:57] Then, Maxwell and Sade, they are seen leaving the bar at 9.06pm.
[00:08:02] Somehow, Maxwell has convinced Sade to go back to his house on South 39th Street.
[00:08:09] Now, I was young once and I did things far more stupid than going back to a date's house.
[00:08:15] Sade did the right thing by first meeting her date at a public location.
[00:08:19] Unfortunately, Maxwell knew exactly what to do and say to get her to let her guard down.
[00:08:26] Still, Sade was a smart girl.
[00:08:29] She used an app called Life360, which is a location-sharing app.
[00:08:34] Meaning, her mother and several of her friends knew her location at all times.
[00:08:40] While this would not save Sade from the grips of this disgusting monster,
[00:08:45] it would help investigators to piece together what would happen to her that night.
[00:08:49] And what we know now is that Sade would walk into Maxwell's home and then would never leave again in one piece.
[00:08:57] The following day, on April 2nd, Sade was supposed to work a shift at Pizza Shuttle, but she didn't show up.
[00:09:06] Her manager, Romano, would say that this wasn't like her at all.
[00:09:10] He said, quote,
[00:09:11] We kind of knew something was up. We had been calling her all day.
[00:09:16] But no one could get a hold of Sade.
[00:09:18] Not her manager, not her mother, and not her friend, who has been identified as AJ in police documents.
[00:09:26] When no one was still able to touch base with Sade that evening,
[00:09:29] AJ walked into the police station at around 9pm and reported her friend as missing.
[00:09:34] She told the police that Sade wasn't answering her calls and that her last point of contact was the evening prior
[00:09:41] when she had posted that photo to Snapchat while at the bar Dukes on Water.
[00:09:46] Now, oftentimes, when an adult doesn't show up for work or they're not answering phone calls,
[00:09:52] this doesn't immediately raise the alarm for the police.
[00:09:56] Grown adults are allowed to fall off the map if they so choose.
[00:10:00] And oftentimes, those who do show up within the next following few days.
[00:10:06] However, Sade's friends and family didn't know at that time that on the same day they reported her missing,
[00:10:13] several very bizarre discoveries had been made by the police.
[00:10:18] Discoveries that would lead them to believe that something terrible may have happened to Sade Robinson.
[00:10:23] In the early morning hours of April 2nd,
[00:10:26] the Milwaukee Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle on fire.
[00:10:31] It's a 2020 Honda Civic, registered to Sade Robinson.
[00:10:36] In the trunk of this burnt-out car, investigators would find remnants of a cell phone and clothing.
[00:10:42] Clothing that would later be identified as the ones Sade had worn during her date.
[00:10:48] Security camera footage would play a big role in this case, which is actually kind of unusual to see,
[00:10:54] despite the fact that in today's society we have security cameras just about everywhere tracking us.
[00:11:00] You wouldn't believe how many times these cameras don't function,
[00:11:04] or they record over important footage,
[00:11:07] or the footage comes out so blurry you don't know what's what.
[00:11:11] But in this case, a camera posted in the parking lot captured a white male
[00:11:16] walking away from the burning car at around 7.29 a.m.
[00:11:20] He's wearing a gray hoodie, and he's carrying a tan backpack.
[00:11:25] A witness would later say that he saw a male get out of the Honda Civic
[00:11:29] and toss a lighter into the car before walking away.
[00:11:33] Then the car went up in flames.
[00:11:36] But that wasn't the worst of it.
[00:11:38] At around 5.30 p.m. that same day, a human leg was found by a citizen at Warnemont Park
[00:11:45] down a 100-foot cliff near the shoreline next to a pump house.
[00:11:50] The leg, which appeared to belong to a black female, was severed just below the hip socket,
[00:11:56] and it appeared to have been sawed off.
[00:11:59] The toes on the feet had pink nail polish, and because the leg didn't appear to be decomposing,
[00:12:06] it had recently been severed from its owner.
[00:12:10] Later, a medical examiner would say that the leg belonged to someone approximately 5 feet tall.
[00:12:16] The top of the femur bone appeared to have been snapped off,
[00:12:20] while the amputation point showed signs that a sharp tool was used to saw the leg off.
[00:12:27] They would still need to send the leg to the lab for testing in order to identify who it belonged to,
[00:12:32] but it didn't look good in the investigation to find missing Sade Robinson.
[00:12:38] Lucky for investigators, there happened to be another security camera in the area of the park where the leg was found,
[00:12:45] one which captured someone entering the road headed towards the pump house at around 2.53 a.m.
[00:12:52] And as it would turn out, city workers reported that someone had used a car to ram open a gate to the service road leading to the pump house.
[00:13:01] Near the broken gate, investigators found pieces of a Honda Civic vehicle that would match Sade's car.
[00:13:09] Other video captured images of a human figure walking towards the cliff of the beach at around 3.02 a.m.
[00:13:17] Then, about an hour and a half later, the person returns to their vehicle and leaves the park.
[00:13:23] Milwaukee police conduct a welfare check at Sade's apartment, but no one answers the door.
[00:13:30] In speaking with some of the staff working at the apartment building, they learned that the last time they had seen Sade in the building was on April 1st,
[00:13:38] when she was talking about just how excited she was to go on that date.
[00:13:42] They released this information to the media in hopes of gaining any information from the public who may have seen Sade the night that she disappeared or since then.
[00:13:52] That's when another friend of Sade's calls in a tip that she had been tracking her location using the Life360 app.
[00:14:00] Again, great idea. I love this. Girls looking out for each other.
[00:14:05] According to the app, Sade, or at least her phone, was in the area of Warnemont Park at around 4.30 a.m. on April 2nd,
[00:14:14] the same spot where the human leg had been discovered.
[00:14:18] Investigators got a warrant for Sade's phone records, and this is when they found all of those text messages between Sade and her date, Maxwell Anderson.
[00:14:28] On April 4th, three days since Sade has been seen, law enforcement pull over Maxwell while he's driving in his black 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe, just a few blocks away from his house.
[00:14:40] In his vehicle, they find a hoodie that matches the one worn by the suspect who set Sade's car on fire.
[00:14:47] They also see what looks like human blood on the front passenger's side door speaker cover.
[00:14:53] This guy might be one of the worst criminals of all time.
[00:14:58] After taking him into custody, police execute a search warrant on his home and find even more incriminating evidence.
[00:15:07] They discovered blood on the bedding in one of the bedrooms, as well as blood on the walls leading down to the basement.
[00:15:14] They also find gasoline containers in his garage, which they believed he used to torch Sade's car.
[00:15:22] It's as if everything he did to try to hide evidence only made it easier for the police to track him down.
[00:15:30] It's time for a quick break and a word from tonight's sponsors.

[00:17:02] It's time to feel like you again.
[00:17:07] Now back to our story.
[00:17:08] So who is this criminal genius, Maxwell Anderson?
[00:17:15] This 33-year-old Milwaukee man had a history of legal troubles, including convictions for domestic abuse, disorderly conduct, and driving under the influence.
[00:17:26] Court documents also revealed ongoing concerns about his mental health and struggles with substance abuse.
[00:17:32] He's worked various roles in the service industry, primarily as a bartender and a security guard.
[00:17:39] His most recent job was at Victor's Nightclub, a bar that Sade was known to frequent, where a manager praised him as a hardworking and well-liked member of the team.
[00:17:50] However, he did have a troubled past.
[00:17:53] In 2014, he was involved in an altercation with a family member.
[00:17:58] While visiting family in Colorado, he got into it with a relative who had just returned home from work and found him acting erratically.
[00:18:07] When he was questioned about what was going on, he refused to answer.
[00:18:12] Instead, he began screaming at this relative and throwing things around the house.
[00:18:17] The relative ran into his bedroom and called his father, who in turn called the police.
[00:18:22] When officers arrived at the home, Maxwell stole this family member's vehicle and crashed it into a patio.
[00:18:29] He ended up getting into an altercation with another relative and broke his ribs.
[00:18:34] It's believed that he was likely under the influence, and he was charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, resulting in a $416 fine, which seems like a slap on the wrist to me.
[00:18:49] Clearly, it was not a deterrent of any kind, because the following year, he had more legal troubles.
[00:18:56] In 2015, again, he was staying with a relative, living in their basement for the last two months, but it wasn't really working out.
[00:19:04] This relative tried to lay down some ground rules about cleaning up after himself and constantly coming in and out of the home.
[00:19:12] This did not sit well with Maxwell, who suddenly became violent, throwing a glass, putting his fists through the wall, and smashing his relative's cell phone after he had tried to call 911 for help.
[00:19:25] During this altercation, Maxwell caused more than $1,300 worth of damage, and he was charged with four misdemeanors.
[00:19:32] He pled guilty to criminal damage to property, intimidating a witness and disorderly conduct, and domestic abuse, and he was given probation for a year.
[00:19:44] His behavior was only escalating, and yet another slap on the wrist.
[00:19:51] Maxwell went under the radar for the next few years.
[00:19:54] But then, in 2019, he was charged with battery and disorderly conduct after he was recorded on video attacking a man who had tried to intervene when he was seen yelling at a woman.
[00:20:06] This time, he was given one year of probation, which included terms where he had to keep a job and submit random drug tests.
[00:20:15] He also had to do 25 hours of volunteer service and pay $7,000 in restitution.
[00:20:21] In 2020, he purchased the home in Milwaukee, the one that he would use to do horrific things to an unsuspecting young woman.
[00:20:31] In the following years, he'd have several DUI charges, but nothing as violent as what he was preparing himself to do.
[00:20:39] On April 6th, five days after Sade went on that date from hell, more human remains would be found.
[00:20:47] Located near a playground in the vicinity where Sade's car had been found burned out,
[00:20:52] they discovered a human foot and more human flesh.
[00:20:56] They appeared to be from the same individual as the leg,
[00:21:00] with the foot having the same matching nail polish as the leg that had been found.
[00:21:05] The leg, the foot, and the other pieces of human flesh would be identified as belonging to Sade Robinson.
[00:21:13] While they would not be able to locate all the pieces of her body,
[00:21:17] the evidence would suggest that Sade was dead.
[00:21:21] Police arrested Maxwell Anderson and charged him with first-degree intentional homicide,
[00:21:27] mutilating a corpse, and arson of property other than a building.
[00:21:31] He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
[00:21:33] The complaint against him read,
[00:21:52] While Maxwell Anderson has been completely uncooperative with the investigation,
[00:21:58] that didn't stop Sade's friends and family from organizing their own search parties
[00:22:04] to try to find the rest of her remains.
[00:22:06] And I truly cannot imagine the pain that one must feel from not being able to give her a proper burial.
[00:22:14] My message to the community and to everyone is to please keep searching for my baby.
[00:22:23] I need all of her.
[00:22:25] Her corpse was found.
[00:22:28] Her torso.
[00:22:32] Have they run tests?
[00:22:33] I did not ask to be chosen to be the voice for the community,
[00:22:38] and that my daughter was chosen as the angelic spirit to speak for all of the lost black and brown girls gone missing.
[00:22:47] Because Sade speaks to me daily.
[00:22:53] And we do not want this to happen to any other family of color,
[00:22:58] because this has been taking place for too long.
[00:23:01] While walking along an Illinois municipal beach,
[00:23:04] a citizen discovered a human arm.
[00:23:07] A coroner would use DNA to positively identify the arm as belonging to Sade.
[00:23:12] There would also be a torso discovered along a remote area of a beach in South Milwaukee,
[00:23:19] which is also believed to be Sade's.
[00:23:22] Piece by piece,
[00:23:24] her mother has had to be re-traumatized over the news that
[00:23:27] more of her daughter's body has been found.
[00:23:30] In June, Sade's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Maxwell Anderson,
[00:23:37] seeking damages for emotional distress.
[00:23:39] Now they're looking for compensation,
[00:23:41] as well as the proceeds from the sale of Maxwell's house,
[00:23:45] the house that Sade was allegedly killed in.
[00:23:48] They also allege that Maxwell's family removed property from the home,
[00:23:53] including pieces of key evidence,
[00:23:55] which may include a finger that they believe belonged to Sade.
[00:24:00] According to what is written in the lawsuit,
[00:24:03] quote,
[00:24:03] he knew or should have known that his actions would cause the death of Sade Robinson,
[00:24:09] and that as a direct result of his actions,
[00:24:12] Sade Robinson would suffer immense pain,
[00:24:15] and that her mother and sister would suffer in an indescribable way
[00:24:19] for the remainder of their lives at the loss of Sade Robinson.
[00:24:23] And the visual sight of seeing her body's remains located over time
[00:24:28] in decaying, decomposed pieces.
[00:24:31] In August, newly unsealed search warrants were released,
[00:24:35] and they detailed even more shocking information related to this case.
[00:24:40] There was a confidential informant who came forward to police,
[00:24:44] allegedly a friend of Maxwell's,
[00:24:46] and they said that Maxwell had plotted Sade's death about a month prior to going through with his plan.
[00:24:52] According to this informant statement,
[00:24:55] he was at Maxwell's residence on March 5th,
[00:24:58] and Maxwell told him that he had recently met a young lady,
[00:25:02] Sade,
[00:25:02] and he planned to kill her.
[00:25:05] His plan included bringing Sade back to his home,
[00:25:08] pulling a handgun on her,
[00:25:10] and then bringing her down to the basement.
[00:25:13] Allegedly, Maxwell showed him the space in his basement,
[00:25:16] which, by the way, pardon my language,
[00:25:18] looks like an absolute shithole.
[00:25:20] And then he said that he planned on shooting her
[00:25:23] and dismembering her there.
[00:25:25] He also allegedly said that he would get rid of her body by cutting it up
[00:25:30] and scattering pieces all over the city.
[00:25:33] This informant claimed to have seen three saws in that basement
[00:25:37] that Maxwell said that he would use.
[00:25:40] Now, I don't care how long you've been friends with someone.
[00:25:43] I can't imagine hearing this information
[00:25:46] and not immediately going to the police,
[00:25:49] especially knowing this guy's past violent criminal history.
[00:25:53] Nobody makes up this kind of story as a joke.
[00:25:57] If what this informant is saying is true,
[00:26:00] he had every opportunity to save Sade,
[00:26:03] and he chose not to.
[00:26:05] It's unfortunate because now,
[00:26:07] in exchange for his statement,
[00:26:09] he's not going to be held accountable in any way
[00:26:11] for his actions or lack thereof.
[00:26:14] Sade may not have even been the first woman
[00:26:17] that Maxwell targeted.
[00:26:19] Court documents would reveal that
[00:26:21] there was another young lady,
[00:26:23] a 24-year-old who had been on a bad date
[00:26:26] with Maxwell in February.
[00:26:28] She said that they had a few drinks
[00:26:30] and almost immediately,
[00:26:32] she began to feel sick, weak, and dizzy.
[00:26:36] This woman thought that
[00:26:37] she had probably been drugged.
[00:26:40] Perhaps Maxwell had plans
[00:26:42] to do more to this woman too,
[00:26:44] but changed his mind at the last minute.
[00:26:46] We'll never know.
[00:26:47] As of right now,
[00:26:49] Maxwell Anderson continues to maintain
[00:26:51] that he's innocent.
[00:26:53] He says that this informant is a liar.
[00:26:56] Since his bond was set at $5 million
[00:26:58] and he hasn't been able to pay it,
[00:27:01] he's been sitting behind bars
[00:27:02] since his arrest in April.
[00:27:04] His trial was supposed to begin on December 9th,
[00:27:07] but it's been delayed by several months.
[00:27:10] It's now set to move forward in May of 2025.
[00:27:14] According to his defense team,
[00:27:16] they want more time
[00:27:17] so that they can work
[00:27:18] with a computer forensics expert
[00:27:20] who says that
[00:27:21] they may have an alibi
[00:27:22] for Maxwell's whereabouts
[00:27:24] on the night of the murder.
[00:27:26] According to his defense attorney,
[00:27:28] quote,
[00:27:28] our expert believes
[00:27:29] that there's evidence
[00:27:30] on Mr. Anderson's phone
[00:27:32] that suggests
[00:27:33] he was using the internet
[00:27:34] presumably at his home
[00:27:36] during the time frame
[00:27:37] that another person
[00:27:38] would have been driving
[00:27:39] Mrs. Robinson's car around.
[00:27:41] They're certainly going to have
[00:27:43] an uphill battle
[00:27:44] with all of the surveillance footage
[00:27:46] and the GPS trackers
[00:27:48] in his phone and Sade's.
[00:27:50] Until then,
[00:27:52] this monster is off the streets
[00:27:53] while waiting for his trial.
[00:27:55] Sade may not have been
[00:27:57] his first target
[00:27:58] and if he wasn't caught,
[00:27:59] she may not have been his last.
[00:28:02] Now, as I wrap up tonight's episode,
[00:28:05] the heartbreaking truth remains.
[00:28:07] Maxwell continues to re-traumatize
[00:28:10] Sade's family
[00:28:10] by withholding crucial details,
[00:28:13] details that could bring them
[00:28:14] some peace
[00:28:15] and maybe even a sense of closure.
[00:28:18] By refusing to come forward
[00:28:20] with the truth
[00:28:21] of what happened to Sade,
[00:28:22] he's forcing her loved ones
[00:28:24] to relive the nightmare
[00:28:26] again and again,
[00:28:28] making this journey to justice
[00:28:29] even more painful.
[00:28:31] Sade doesn't deserve to be lost,
[00:28:34] not in life
[00:28:35] and certainly not in death
[00:28:36] because of Maxwell's
[00:28:38] malicious actions.
[00:28:39] Now, all eyes are on him.
[00:28:42] Will he finally choose
[00:28:43] to do the right thing,
[00:28:45] perhaps for the first time
[00:28:46] in his life?
[00:28:47] Or will he continue
[00:28:48] to let his evil agenda
[00:28:50] dictate the course of events?
[00:28:52] Only time will tell.
[00:28:54] Until then,
[00:28:55] we'll keep pushing for the truth.
[00:28:58] That's it for me tonight.

[00:29:30] And I do want to address
[00:29:32] one little thing
[00:29:32] because I had a comment
[00:29:33] from someone who thought
[00:29:35] that now all of my episodes
[00:29:37] are Patreon only
[00:29:38] and that they would have to pay.
[00:29:40] And that's simply not true.
